Cross//Hatch, an emerging Milwaukee-based percussion group, presents its debut performance in the newly opened Jan Serr Studio at the UWM Kenilworth Square East Campus. The program by composers Paul Lansky, Rodolfo Acosta, and Johann Hasler explores the collision of distinct sonic worlds through an interwoven collection of Arias for resonant metals, Recitatives for found sounds, and Choruses for thundering drums. Drawing inspiration from the visual art technique of crosshatching – shading through the use of intersecting lines – the ensemble explores the deeper shadings, nuances, and expressions made possible through the interweaving of four individual artists to create a collaborative and compelling musical vision.
South Florida's leading modern dance company, Dance NOW! Miami, returns to Aventura for the fourth season, bringing their unique style of sinewy, graceful, athletic and engaging contemporary choreography and performance.
The evening features the world premiere of their newest work, The Book of Psalms, choreographed by Dance NOW!'s critically acclaimed Artistic Directors Hannah Baumgarten and Diego Salterini. Inspired by the ancient texts of the old testament, Psalms is a contemporary dance journey through the hopes, joys, loyalties, sorrows, doubts and aspirations of the human heart.
Fifth House Ensemble and Grammy-winning classical guitarist Jason Vieaux team up to create a sonic journey ranging from centuries-old music to modern day works. Dan Visconti’s guitar concerto, Living Language, serves as the centerpiece of the program and showcases a multitude of styles from Medieval plainchant to blues, rock, and Latin dance music. Fifth House and Jason Vieaux use the varied genres on display in Living Language as a jumping off point for a stunning program of chamber and solo works from all around the world, including works by Robert Beaser, Alonso Mudarra, Duke Ellington, Béla Bartòk, and Pat Metheny.
Li Chiao-Ping Dance proudly presents ARENA, featuring new works choreographed by Li Chiao-Ping and performed by her talented company, shifting attention to abstract expression through the dancing body. The concert will be shown in the round to give each audience member a unique perspective of the performance.
